Ogun State Governor, Prince Adedapo Oluseun Abiodun

A teacher at Obada Grammar School in Ogun State has been suspended by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology for allegedly beating an SS2 student, Monday Arijo, which reportedly led to his death. The teacher’s identity has been withheld, and the incident occurred in the Obada area of Idi-Emi.

A viral video seen by Radio Now’s Oluwatosin Ejalonibu shows Mr. Arijo in visible pain on a hospital bed, with a voice in the background claiming that the student received 162 strokes of the cane. The incident, which happened last Friday, resulted in the teacher’s immediate arrest.

In a statement, the Ogun State Ministry revealed that the school’s principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, has been queried for permitting corporal punishment in violation of state rules and has been given 24 hours to explain her actions or face disciplinary measures.

Though an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is yet to be conducted, the state government has assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated, and justice will be served for the family.
