The Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, has warned residents of an impending risk of flash floods between March and July, advising those in flood-prone areas to take precautionary measures.
Speaking at a flood alert briefing in Abeokuta, Mr Oresanya identified vulnerable locations, including Isheri, Akute, Warewa, and Yemule River banks in Ijebu-Ode, as well as Ifaara, Ebute-Oni in Ogun Waterside, Arakanga, and Isakale in Ado-Odo Local Government. He urged residents in these areas to prepare for possible relocation ahead of anticipated coastal flooding between September and November.

The commissioner emphasised the importance of the annual flood alert in raising public awareness of the environmental and socio-economic risks associated with flooding. He called on residents to cooperate with the authorities by avoiding practices such as dumping waste in waterways, which could obstruct drainage and worsen flooding.
