The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, has vowed to bring lasting peace to Nigeria if confirmed in a substantive capacity. Speaking before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Defence and Army at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Wednesday, Oluyede emphasised the need for unity among Nigerians to tackle the country’s security challenges.
He highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral and multilateral alliances with neighbouring countries to combat cross-border threats while calling for enhanced collaboration among the armed forces, security agencies, and tactical upgrades, particularly the procurement of tactical aircraft, to boost the Army’s operational effectiveness.

Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Honourable Babajimi Benson, noted that Nigeria continues to face a diverse range of security threats, including insurgency, banditry, communal clashes, and cybercrime. While commending recent successes by the Armed Forces, Mr. Benson stressed that more effort is required to achieve sustainable peace across all regions.
