Greek powerhouse Olympiacos has placed its faith in Nigerian international Bruno Onyemaechi, registering him for the UEFA Europa League knockout stages.

The 25-year-old defender, who joined from Portuguese side Boavista in January for €2.5 million, has been included in the club’s European squad at the expense of Sérgio Oliveira, the Portuguese midfielder, formerly of FC Porto, who is widely expected to leave the club.

Olympiacos, having secured direct qualification to the Europa League Round of 16, is preparing for a deep run in the competition as they look to bolster their continental credentials.

Should Onyemaechi feature in the upcoming matches, it would mark his first-ever appearance in European club competition. His previous stints at Feirense, Vila Real, and Boavista, none of which have competed on the continental stage, have so far denied him the opportunity.

With Olympiacos backing him for their Europa League campaign, Onyemaechi now has the stage to showcase his talents on one of Europe’s biggest platforms.
