Ondo Doctors Begin Warning Strike Over Pay and Staffing Shortages

Medical doctors employed by the Ondo State Government have declared a three-day warning strike beginning Monday, 14 July, in protest against what they describe as neglect of the health sector and worsening conditions of service.

Acting under the National Association of Government General and Dental Practitioners, NAGGMDP, the doctors say many general hospitals are severely understaffed, with some operating with only one doctor per local government.

Grievances also include unpaid salaries and allowances for newly recruited doctors, non-payment of hazard allowances dating back to 2023, promotion arrears, and recent increases in taxation without consultation.

The association is demanding immediate recruitment, payment of outstanding entitlements, and a reversal of the new tax regime.

Leaders warn that failure to act during the warning strike will lead to an indefinite industrial action.
