One Soldier Killed, Others Injured As Driver Runs Into Troops In Lagos

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has reported a fatal incident during its Bi-Annual Route March near Myhoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos, on Friday. A private vehicle allegedly drove recklessly into troops, resulting in the death of one soldier and injuries to several others. 

According to a statement, signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the soldier’s death, and that the injured are now receiving medical treatment at the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba.

Lieutenant Colonel Ayeni confirmed that the deceased soldier has been taken to the mortuary, while an investigation is underway by the 81 Division Military Police and other security agencies. 

In a statement, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the fallen soldier and wished a swift recovery for those injured. He also appealed for calm, emphasising that a full investigation is ongoing.
