Victor Osimhen produced a masterclass in Uyo as Nigeria’s Super Eagles swept aside the Republic of Benin 4–0 to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup intercontinental play-offs. The Galatasaray striker struck a brilliant hat-trick, while Frank Onyeka added a late fourth to complete a commanding performance for Finidi George’s side.
Osimhen opened the scoring within three minutes, finishing a Samuel Chukwueze pass before heading home again in the 37th minute. He completed his treble early in the second half from a Moses Simon cross, setting the tone for Nigeria’s finest display of the qualifiers.

Despite the emphatic victory, the Super Eagles narrowly missed automatic qualification as South Africa topped Group C with 18 points. Nigeria finished second on 17 and will now battle for a World Cup spot via the CAF play-offs next March.
