Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has sworn in newly elected local government chairpersons and councillors following the People’s Democratic Party’s, PDP, sweep of all 30 local government areas and 332 wards in a contentious election held on Saturday.
Addressing the officials at the inauguration on Sunday, Governor Adeleke welcomed the outcome despite earlier challenges, urging them to prioritise service delivery and uphold democratic principles.

However, the governor instructed the newly sworn-in officials to avoid local government secretariats for now, citing concerns over tensions with individuals he accused the police of assisting in forcibly occupying the premises.
The ceremony in Osogbo was attended by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.
