Over 1,000 Nigerians Killed This Year, Obi Raises Alarm

Peter Obi Faults Defections, Says Democracy Is About Persuasion

Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has claimed that over 1,000 Nigerians were killed and thousands abducted between January and February 2026.

Obi made the statement on his X account on Sunday, March 1, warning that the scale of violence across the country is worse than in nations officially at war.

He cited attacks in more than 25 states, including Zamfara, Kwara, Ondo, Kebbi, Edo, Benue, Adamawa, and Plateau, highlighting kidnappings, shootings, village raids, and assaults on worshippers and travellers.

Obi criticised political leaders for focusing on preparations for the 2027 elections rather than prioritising the safety of citizens, calling for a national elevation of human life as a priority.
