The Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Abdallah Abu Shawesh says over 1,600 Palestinians have been put in jail over the past month by the Israeli government.
Speaking in a press briefing in Abuja yesterday about the war on Gaza by Israel, the envoy called for the release of Palestinians jailed by Israel, as he said Palestine was ready to release all Israeli hostages in return.
Mr Shawesh also called for a ceasefire in Gaza, lamenting that the humanitarian situation in the enclave was becoming disastrous. He also put the death toll at over 8,700 in Gaza and 114 in the occupied West Bank, saying 73 percent of them are children, women and the elderly.

He said more than 150,000 housing units have become inhabitable as a result of Israel’s bombardments, adding that 1.4 million civilians were now internally displaced in Gaza.
Israel has heavily bombarded Gaza since Hamas gunmen stormed across the border on October 7, killing 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping at least 240 others, including children, according to Israeli officials.
