Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have ambushed a monitoring team from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Farin-Kasa, Chukun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The attack occurred Monday as the operatives inspected power grid installations in Shiroro, Niger State, following recent attacks on power lines that caused widespread blackouts in northern Nigeria.
NSCDC spokesperson, DCC Afolabi Babawale, disclosed that the team, comprising nine officers and 71 other ranks, was ambushed by over 200 heavily armed insurgents near Dagwachi Village while providing safety for stranded expatriates who had joined their convoy.
The Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly act against personnel dedicated to national service. He commended the courage of the operatives and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting critical infrastructure amid rising security challenges.
