Over N45.7bn Grant Not Accessed By State Govts, Says UBEC

The Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Hamid Bobboyi, has said over N45.7 billion matching grant to state governments for the implementation of Universal Basic Education, UBE, between 2020 and 2023 has not been  accessed by many states.

Speaking on Wednesday when he received members of the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Services, during an oversight visit to the commission in Abuja, he also said that only 16 states had so far accessed the 2023 matching grant, representing 41 percent of an appropriated N51.6bn.

According to him, the sum of N51.6bn was appropriated by the Federal Government as matching grants to states in 2023, but only N21bn was accessed by the 16 states as at June 30.

He listed the 16 states to include, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Enugu, Jigawa, Kano, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba and Zamfara.
