The Oyo State Government has approved a new minimum wage of ₦80,000 for its workforce. This announcement was made on Wednesday by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade.
According to Mr. Oyelade, the Technical Committee set up by the government recommended the wage increase, which received approval from Governor Seyi Makinde. He noted that the new wage scale will take effect once the committee completes the necessary adjustments in collaboration with government and labor officials.
Mr. Oyelade highlighted Oyo State’s recent recognition as the most worker-friendly state in Southern Nigeria by the National Bureau of Statistics, which reported a drop in unemployment due to increased recruitment across sectors.
He added that since taking office in 2019, Governor Makinde has consistently ensured workers are paid by the 25th of every month, reflecting the administration’s commitment to the welfare of its employees.
