Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have announced 28 August as the date for the party’s national convention.
This is according to a communiqué released on Monday following a closed-door meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The convention, a pivotal event in the party’s calendar, is expected to produce a new National Working Committee, NWC, responsible for steering day-to-day affairs of the opposition party.

In preparation, the governors recommended the immediate constitution of both zoning and convention planning committees, pending approval by the NWC and NEC.
Bayelsa State governor Douye Diri was named chairman of the zoning committee, with Zamfara’s Dauda Lawal as vice-chairman and Plateau’s Caleb Mutfwang as secretary.
