PDP Heads to Court Over INEC’s Exclusion of Ekiti Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a lawsuit challenging the exclusion of Wole Oluyede from the list of governorship candidates in Ekiti State. The party filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

PDP lawyers argued that Oluyede was wrongly removed from the candidates list despite meeting nomination requirements. Counsel for the party said the exclusion undermines democratic processes and voter choice.

INEC has maintained that its decision was based on internal party processes and stressed that the matter will be addressed through appropriate legal channels if challenged.

Ini Ememobong, PDP spokesperson, has accused the commission of deliberately omitting Oluyede’s name despite monitoring and validating the party’s primary.

The Ekiti governorship election is scheduled to be held on June 20, 2026.
