The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s October 1 Independence Day broadcast, describing it as uninspiring and detached from Nigeria’s realities. PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba, speaking to journalists in Abuja, said the address was filled with misleading statistics and failed to reflect the daily struggles of ordinary citizens.
He argued that insecurity, rising costs, and growing hardship have worsened under the present administration, yet the President painted a picture of progress. According to him, Independence Day should have been an opportunity to present a truthful account of governance, but instead Nigerians received what he labelled as ‘empty rhetoric’.

Ologunagba further accused the APC government of mismanaging subsidy savings and deepening unsustainable debt without accountability. He maintained that true independence should bring security and prosperity, but Nigerians continue to live under fear and economic distress.
