The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has criticised Vice President Kashim Shettima over his comments condemning the union’s recent strike linked to the Dangote refinery dispute.
Vice President Shettima, speaking at the 2025 Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja, had described Dangote as a national institution and warned that no group should hold the country to ransom. In response, PENGASSAN President Festus Osifo said the union would not hesitate to take similar action if its members were victimised again.

Osifo maintained that Nigeria was greater than any individual or institution, including Dangote and the Presidency. He said the association acted to protect sacked workers who joined the union, insisting that industrial action remains a lawful tool to defend labour rights within the oil and gas sector.
