Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has accused the Sports Federation of failing to deliver a FIFA-funded stadium that was promised for Anambra State during his tenure as governor. Obi made the allegation in a post on Monday while reacting to reports of alleged fund mismanagement by the Nigeria Football Federation.
He said officials from the federation had informed him that Awka was among six locations selected for the construction of FIFA-standard stadiums, to be fully funded by the international football body. Obi explained that land was allocated for the project, but the initiative never took off.

The former governor said his administration, believing the FIFA project was underway, focused on developing mini-stadiums across the state, including the Chuba Ikpeazu and Godwin Achebe stadia in Onitsha. He expressed disappointment over what he described as wasted opportunities for Nigerian youth.
The NFF has denied any wrongdoing, saying all funds from FIFA and CAF are audited annually and tied to specific projects under strict financial regulations and compliance measures.
