Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has alleged threats to his life and family following his New Year address on Nigeria’s economic situation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In a series of posts on his X platform on Monday, the former Anambra governor revealed receiving numerous hostile messages targeting him and his loved ones.
Obi’s address criticised claims of economic improvement by the Federal Government, asserting that Nigeria’s economic challenges persist, with the country remaining among the world’s poverty capitals.

Felix Morka, spokesperson for the ruling All Progressives Congress, countered the remarks during an interview with Radio Now, accusing Obi of crossing the line with repeated criticisms of the government. Â
Obi, however, urged critics to review the video of his message, which he reshared, insisting his comments adhered to decorum while maintaining his commitment to truth and accountability.
