The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed speculation suggesting he may be planning to leave the party.
Addressing members during the party’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr Obi reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, stating he had not authorised any conversations or announcements about a possible defection.

He indicated that any decision of such magnitude would only be taken following broad consultations with party stakeholders.
The former Anambra State governor also used the occasion to voice concern over the country’s economic and social conditions, warning that Nigeria is in a state of serious decline.
Mr Obi called on opposition voices to speak more forcefully against what he described as worsening governance, adding that the hardship being experienced across the country could no longer be ignored.
