The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, Condemning the move in a statement, NLC President, Joe Ajaero, has accused the Federal Government of betraying labour movement by hiking the price of PMS, better known as petrol.
In a statement on Tuesday, the NLC leader demanded an immediate reversal of the hike in petrol price which was announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, saying the hike has worsened the misery of Nigerians.
According to him, during the negotiations for a higher minimum wage, President Bola Tinubu allegedly gave labour leaders the option of choosing from N250,000 as the new minimum wage in exchange of petrol priced at N1,500, an offer he said they rejected due to the impact it would have on Nigerians.
He added that barely one month after an agreement was reached, with the government yet to commence payment of the new national minimum wage, the nation is confronted by a reality he describes as both traumatic and nightmarish.
