Petroleum Minister Requests Adjournment of Joint Session on President’s Executive Order

A joint investigative session on President Bola Tinubu’s executive order directing the direct remittance of oil and gas revenues into the Federation Account has been adjourned.

The session by the Senate and House of Representatives was halted after the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, requested more time to prepare his response.

The hearing was organised by the joint committees on Petroleum Resources and Gas of both chambers to examine the implications of the directive on the oil and gas sector and the nation’s fiscal framework. Lawmakers were set to review how the order could affect revenue management and industry operations.

Shortly after proceedings began, Lokpobiri informed lawmakers that he had received notice of the hearing only a day earlier and had not fully reviewed key documents. The request for adjournment was approved by members, and a new date for the continuation of the probe is expected to be announced.
