Petroleum Regulator Offers Condolences Over Niger Tanker Explosion

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has expressed condolences to the families and government of Niger State following a tanker explosion that claimed 86 lives and left 55 injured.  

Farouk Ahmed, the Authority Chief Executive, represented by Mustapha Lamorde, Executive Director of Health, Safety, Environment, and Community, visited the site on Sunday, cautioning the public against approaching tanker accidents to avoid further tragedies.

Yusuf Othman, President of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, NARTO, through Executive Secretary Aloga Ogbogo, highlighted the role of environmental, mechanical, and human factors in such incidents. He urged Nigerians to heed government sensitisation campaigns.  

Representatives from Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association, and the Federal Road Safety Corps also attended the site, stressing the need for enhanced public awareness and safety measures to prevent future disasters.
