Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, has failed to regain a seat on the FIFA Council. Pinnick narrowly lost at the extraordinary CAF General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday, attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Pinnick polled 28 votes, falling just one short of the 29 secured by Ahmed Yahya of Mauritania and Djibouti’s Souleymane Waberi. Africa has seven seats on the FIFA Council, with CAF President Patrice Motsepe retaining his position and one seat reserved for a woman.

Pinnick, who first joined the FIFA Council in 2021, is the third Nigerian to have held the position, following Etubom Orok Oyo and Amos Adamu.
Meanwhile, Patrice Motsepe secured a second term as CAF President, continuing in the role he assumed in 2021 after Ahmad Ahmad’s suspension by FIFA for financial misconduct.
