Gunmen opened fire on herders and stole dozens of cattle in Plateau State, highlighting continuing insecurity in rural communities. Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, state chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) reported the attack occurred in villages around Jos on Thursday.
Residents said the assailants fired at grazing animals and fled with at least 168 cows, leaving herders and community members shaken by the violence.
Earlier incidents in the region have seen herders and villagers killed or displaced, and the latest attack adds to concerns about widening clashes between armed groups and pastoral communities.
