Police arrest 97 Shiites over attack on officers in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force said it has arrested 97 members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, known as the Shi’ite group, in connection with a clash with the group in Abuja on Sunday which resulted in the death of two policemen and three others sustaining serious injuries.

Three patrol vehicles were set ablaze during the clash.

In a statement on Monday in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police  Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said credible intelligence reports led the police operatives to the detained suspects.

According to him, the Inspector-General Police says all sorts of anarchy and unrest in any part of the country will be resisted, as he pledged to continue to maintain law and order.
