Police arrest eight alleged secessionists in Ogun State

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight alleged secessionists for breach of public peace, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic and assault on police officers in the Sango Ota area of the state. The arrests were made on Christmas Day at Temidire Junction and Under-Bridge.

Police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspects were agitating under the banner of the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba. He said members of the group barricaded roads, set bonfires and disrupted traffic, before attacking officers deployed to restore order.

Babaseyi said police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene, dispersed the group and arrested the suspects. Items recovered include a Toyota Dyna vehicle, two broadcast speakers, flags, shirts and banners bearing inscriptions linked to the agitation.
