The Nigeria Police say they have arrested a total of 6,571 suspects in Kano and Ekiti states in 2025 as part of efforts to curb crime and maintain public safety. The figures were disclosed separately by the commissioners of police in both states during end-of-year briefings.
In Kano State, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said 3,081 suspects were arrested between January and December across 78 police divisions, 11 area commands and seven tactical units. He said the arrests covered offences including armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, thuggery, vehicle theft and fraud.
Mr Bakori said a security assessment carried out after he assumed office in March identified key threats such as street violence, mobile phone robbery and drug abuse in Kano metropolis, as well as risks of bandit infiltration in border local government areas and farmers-herders clashes in rural communities.
