Police in Ebonyi State say they have arrested the suspected mastermind behind the kidnapping and killing of the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area, Eze Francis Igwe.
The monarch, who was the father of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Kelechi Igwe, was abducted on March 1, 2026, while heading to church in his community.
In a statement on Tuesday, the police spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, said the suspect, identified as Nwazunku Stephen, was arrested on March 8 at a hideout in Ikwo Local Government Area following intelligence-led operations.

Police say weapons recovered during a search include a submachine gun, a pump-action rifle, locally made pistols, ammunition, and other items, while investigations continue to track down other suspects linked to the crime.
