Police Arrest Two Suspects in Murder of Enugu Market Leader

The Enugu State Police Command on Friday paraded two suspects allegedly involved in the September 14, 2024 murder of Chief Stephen Aniagu, Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders Association (OMMATA), Enugu, during a robbery.

The suspects, Chukwudi Aboshi, 28, from Ikwo LGA, Ebonyi State, and Ani Innocent Ebuka (a.k.a. Excellent), a driver from Nkanu East LGA, Enugu State, confessed to the crime during an interaction with journalists. They admitted that Aniagu was shot alongside another victim for “proving stubborn.”

The Enugu Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed during a press briefing that six members of the gang remain at large. The state governor, Peter Mbah, has directed security forces to intensify their efforts to apprehend the remaining culprits.

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, Anayo Uzuegbu, commended the state government for its support and vowed to dismantle all criminal gangs in the state, urging the public to assist with credible information to enhance ongoing security efforts.
