Police used teargas on Thursday to disperse traders protesting a prolonged power blackout at the Tejuosho shopping complex in Yaba, Lagos. Witnesses said panic erupted as officers fired teargas canisters and at least one policeman discharged live rounds, while traders hurled objects in resistance.

The protesters accused the market management of extortion, alleging they had been paying service charges and electricity bills without supply. They complained that the blackout was crippling their businesses and accused management of ignoring their plight.
