A police officer attached to the 12 Police Mobile Force in Minna, Niger State, has died after shooting himself during a routine arms audit. The incident happened on December 16, 2025, at about 2.30pm.
The officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Isah, had earlier been arrested on December 15 over suspected involvement in illegal ammunition dealings. He was escorted to his office as part of ongoing audit and investigative procedures.
Police say that while the audit was in progress, the officer picked up a pistol in the office and shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer in Niger State, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said officers assigned to accompany him during the audit had been arrested for alleged negligence. Police authorities say further investigations are ongoing to establish all the circumstances surrounding the incident.
