Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said the operation, carried out by the Scorpion Squad on Tuesday, October 22, followed intelligence reports that the victims were lured into Nigeria with fake job offers and later held hostage for ransom.

Investigations revealed that the transnational syndicate, led by one Abubakar Jigiba, operates across Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, and Nigeria, with his brother, Sougule Zoubere, coordinating the trafficking and detention of victims in the country.
The victims, including men, women, and a child, were rescued from two fortified apartments in Ado Mararaba and have been taken to the National Hospital in Abuja for medical care. Police say further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the wider network.
