Police Rescue 23 Kidnap Victims in Niger and Enugu States

Twenty-three kidnap victims have been rescued by police operatives in separate operations in Niger and Enugu states. The Nigeria Police Force announced the development on Friday in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi.

In Niger State, five people were kidnapped from Hayin-Dogo and Dangunu villages in Munya LGA. One victim, Usman Daina, was released after two days, while the remaining four were rescued on 22 May during a joint operation with other security agencies.

In Enugu, nine victims abducted along Olo-Umulokpa Road in Uzo-Uwani LGA were freed after police engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel in the Uvuru-Ukpata forest. Additional rescues were made earlier in Amalla-Egazi and along the Enugu-Kogi border, where one kidnapper was killed and eight victims were recovered unharmed.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the bravery of officers involved and praised the support of local security outfits. He assured the public that the Force remains resolute in dismantling criminal networks across the country.
