Police Warn Against Fake Security Alerts in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has cautioned individuals circulating fake security tips online to desist or face prosecution. The warning follows the spread of unsolicited messages falsely suggesting a state of emergency, some of which used the image of Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, without authorisation.

Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said the misleading posts not only deceive the public but also pose a threat to public safety. She noted that some individuals have been recycling old videos and spreading alarming content capable of creating fear among residents.

Odutola stressed that the posts were neither approved by the command nor reflective of the actual security situation in the state. She warned those behind the fake alerts to stop immediately.

The command urged residents to remain calm, assuring that security surveillance and additional deployments are already in place to maintain peace across Ogun State.
