Portable Arraigned, Remanded Over Assault and Theft Charges

Musician, Portable, has been arraigned before the Ogun State High Court in Ota on a nine-count charge bordering on assault, theft, causing harm and resisting arrest.

The prosecution told the court that the charges stem from an incident on New Year’s Day at the singer’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area, following a complaint by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple. Prosecutors alleged that Portable assaulted Ashabi, police officers and other individuals, and also stole a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at twelve million naira.

Two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses in court, while the police also accused the singer of obstructing and assaulting a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, during the performance of her official duties. Ashabi Simple was not present at the hearing.

The presiding judge denied Portable bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court, and ordered that he be remanded in custody. The court fixed January 19 for a fresh bail hearing.
