Power Outage Forces Heathrow Airport to Suspend Operations

London’s Heathrow Airport has suspended all operations following a major power outage caused by a fire at an electrical substation. The airport, one of the world’s busiest, will remain closed until 11:59pm on 21 March.

Passengers have been advised not to travel to the airport and to contact airlines for updates. A Heathrow spokesperson said the shutdown was necessary for safety reasons and acknowledged the disruption for travellers. No timeline was provided for restoring power.

Several flights have been affected, with seven United Airlines flights forced to return or divert, while Qantas has rerouted two services to Paris.

Heathrow handles 1,300 flights daily and saw over 83 million passengers last year, serving 180 destinations across more than 90 countries.
