Electricity has been restored across four northern states under the Jos Electricity Distribution franchise, including Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, and Benue. Power was reinstated around 7:20 pm on Wednesday, prompting evident relief and celebration in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.
For the past 10 days, many northern states have endured an extensive blackout, stemming from the tripping of a 330kV transmission line between Benue and Enugu. The prolonged outage disrupted every facet of socio-economic life, leaving residents to contend with significant challenges in both daily routines and business operations.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Monday, said electricity would be restored to the 17 northern states that have experienced outages.
Nigeria’s ongoing power difficulties, estimated to cost the economy a staggering $26 billion annually, underscore the urgent need for systemic solutions, as highlighted by a recent Africa Trade Barometer report from Standard Bank.
