The NEMA Head in Minna says that the alert became necessary following the Annual Flood Outlook, AFO, released by the Nigeria Hydrological Service Agency and the 2023 seasonal climate prediction by the Nigeria Metrological Agency. She said further that Kwara State is among the high flood-risk states.

According to the 2023 AFO, flood is expected to occur in the state from the months of August, September and October.
