The Presidency says security agencies know the identities and locations of the bandit groups behind recent mass abductions, including the attack on St Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State. Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga told the press that operations are constrained by the risk of harming civilians held by the gunmen. He noted past incidents, including an erroneous strike in Borno State, as reasons for the military’s caution.
Onanuga also said authorities are yet to confirm the number of missing students, citing incomplete records and a lack of cooperation from school officials. He added that bandits routinely use abductees as human shields, slowing immediate rescue attempts.
