President Bola Tinubu has announced the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London at about 4:30pm following a prolonged illness.
In a statement from the State House, President Tinubu extended condolences to Mrs Aisha Buhari and the family of the late former leader.

He has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the former President’s remains back to Nigeria.
President Buhari twice served as Nigeria’s Head of State; once as a Military Head of State, then as a two-term elected President.
National flags are to fly at half-mast in his honour.
