President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to leave a legacy of free, fair, and transparent elections, stressing that Nigeria is committed to the sanctity of constitutional term limits.

The President said this while delivering his speech at the United Nations general assembly (UNGA77) in New York, the USA, yesterday.

President Buhari outlined Nigeria’s achievements in building democracy and highlighted the nation’s role in supporting democracy in The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Chad.

He also spoke on what he described as the multifaceted challenges facing most developing countries, saying they have placed a debilitating chokehold on their fiscal space.

President Buhari called for a global commitment to the expansion and extension of the Debt Service Suspension Initiative to countries facing fiscal and liquidity challenges and the outright cancellation of debts for countries facing the most severe challenges.
