President Ramaphosa Demands Release of South Africans Seized in Gaza Aid Flotilla

President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged Israel to immediately release South Africans and other nationals detained during the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. The vessels were stopped in international waters, a move the president said violated international law.

Among those confirmed on board were Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, Zukiswa Wanner and Reaaz Moolla, with reports suggesting others may also have been seized. Ramaphosa condemned the interception, describing it as an assault on humanitarian efforts and global solidarity with Palestinians.

He called on Israel to ensure the aid reaches Gaza and to comply with international rulings demanding unrestricted humanitarian access. The presidency stressed that the detention of peace activists serves no constructive purpose and reaffirmed South Africa’s support for lifting the blockade to alleviate suffering in the territory.
