Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, says President Bola Tinubu has approved lifetime salary benefits for senior officers retiring from agencies under the ministry.
In a statement signed by P.O. Abraham, head of corporate services, the minister announced at the 2025 ministerial retreat that the policy will apply to officers leaving service at the rank of Deputy Controller, Comptroller or Commandant-General.

He said the initiative forms part of wider reforms to improve welfare and performance, including clearing a backlog of more than 50,000 promotions in the last two years and prioritising mental health support for officers.
The minister also highlighted fresh investments in training and infrastructure, including the construction of a world-class fire academy and plans to modernise firefighting operations through private sector partnerships.
