President Tinubu Consoles Chimamanda Adichie over Son’s Death

President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of Nkanu Nnamdi, the 21-month-old son of acclaimed author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege. The child passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness, according to a family statement issued on Thursday.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Tinubu extended his condolences, saying he empathises with the family’s grief. He prayed that God grant them strength and solace during this difficult period.

Chimamanda and Esege, who married in 2009, had three children: a daughter born in 2016 and twin boys born in 2024. The couple had kept the birth of the twins private to protect them, the author told The Guardian in 2025.
