President Bola Tinubu has granted automatic employment to 774 fellows of the National Health Programme, a federal initiative aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s primary healthcare system. The announcement was made at the programme’s official launch in Abuja on Friday.
Addressing the fellows, who are tasked with monitoring Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across all 774 local government areas, Tinubu assured them of job placement at the end of their one-year tenure, declaring, “You are hired.” His pledge followed an appeal by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, for federal, state, and local governments to integrate the fellows into the workforce to support universal health coverage.

The initiative is a key component of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality medical services nationwide.
