President Tinubu launches national patriotism campaign

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to become ambassadors of truth and promote the country’s progress as the government launched a national patriotism campaign titled “My Nigeria, My Responsibility.” Represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, the President said patriotism must be demonstrated through responsible civic conduct, including tax compliance, which he described as a key expression of trust between citizens and the state.

He appealed to Nigerians to uphold the Citizens’ Charter of National Values, which highlights integrity, patriotism, diligence, tolerance and excellence. Tinubu also cautioned against the spread of misinformation, particularly online, and encouraged citizens to promote innovation, progress and peace.

The President announced that a National Media and Information Literacy Institute will be inaugurated in February 2026 to equip Nigerians with skills to verify information, resist manipulation and engage responsibly in the digital space. Academic and government leaders at the launch emphasised the need for renewed civic responsibility and informed citizenship.
