President Bola Tinubu has described the passing of former Minister of Education, Prof. Jubril Aminu, as a profound loss to the nation. In a statement, President Tinubu called the renowned academic and statesman one of Nigeria’s most decorated medical professionals, praising his brilliance and dedication to public service. Prof. Aminu, who died at 85 in Abuja after a prolonged illness, was remembered for his roles in medicine, diplomacy, and education.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima led the Jana’iza (funeral prayers) at the National Mosque, joined by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, who lauded Aminu as an intellectual giant and a titan of public life.

Born in Adamawa in 1939, Aminu served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the U.S., Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
Other mourners, including PDP chieftain Bode George, praised his selflessness, integrity, and contributions to nation-building. Nigeria, they said, has lost a rare gentleman and one of its finest.
