President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to former Inspector-General of Police Solomon Ehigiator Arase, who died on Sunday aged 69.
In a statement from the presidency, Mr Tinubu described Arase as a dedicated officer whose reforms as IGP and later as Chairman of the Police Service Commission left a lasting impact on the Nigeria Police Force.

Arase, who served from 1981 until his retirement in 2016, was credited with strengthening intelligence, operational and tactical policing. His tenure introduced initiatives such as the Intelligence Response Team, Complaint Response Unit and Safer Highway Patrols.
Beyond his career in uniform, he held key public roles, including chairing the Police Service Commission, while also contributing to international security and human rights work.
The president commiserated with his family and colleagues, praising a career devoted to national and global service.
