President Bola Tinubu has presented a ₦1.481 trillion Appropriation Bill for Rivers State to the National Assembly for consideration. This follows the suspension of the State’s House of Assembly and the declaration of a state of emergency in March.
In his letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu proposed major allocations to infrastructure, health, education, and agriculture, with plans to create about 6,000 new jobs. The Senate has referred the budget to its Ad-hoc Committee on Emergency Rule.

The submission comes after the Supreme Court nullified the budget earlier passed under suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The President reminded lawmakers that his emergency powers under Section 305 of the Constitution necessitated temporary oversight of the state.
Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd) currently oversees the state’s administration. The suspension of elected officials has sparked protests, especially among women in Port Harcourt, with calls for their reinstatement continuing.
